Lieutenant Colonel John M. Pecarina

Lieutenant Colonel John M. Pecarina is the Commander, Air Force ROTC Detachment 925 and Department Head, Aerospace Studies, University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. He is responsible for recruiting, educating, inspiring, and providing the United States Air Force with its next generation of high caliber leaders.

Lieutenant Colonel Pecarina received his commission from Detachment 847, Reserve Officer Training Corps, Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas in 2001. He has held assignments at Air Force Space Command, Air Mobility Command, 8th Air Force (Air Combat Command), and the Air Force Institute of Technology. Most recently, he led cyber operations requirements, directing four studies for the Air Force and Department of Defense that help establish next generation cyber capabilities for offense, defense and enterprise-level information network operations. In addition, he guided mobility systems in the areas of architectures, communications security and mission assurance. He fielded secure communications, command and control systems for the global strike air operations center and helped stand up Air Force network and security operations centers at multiple assignments. Finally, Lt Colonel Pecarina has deployed in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and RESOLUTE SUPPORT to Camp Lemonier, Djibouti and Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan

Lieutenant Colonel Pecarina received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, in 2013. John Pecarina was an Assistant Professor with the Computer Science Department, Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He taught courses in cryptography, operating systems, and distributed systems while managing the computer science division and the graduate cyber operations program. He has directed $25M in studies, won $575,000 in research grants, authored 25 peer-reviewed publications, and holds one patent in the areas of computer vision, image retrieval, process mining and analysis, cyber security and military cyber operations.
